Climate

The typical weather at La Manga is well-known world over for 320 days annually of sunshine, temperate breezes and fresh air. An unusual phenomenon to the Southeast of Murcia is a huge saltwater lagoon stretching along La Manga Strip for roughly 26 kilometres and 7 kilometres wide and is known as ‘The Mar Menor’ (The Little Sea).

La Manga Strip is the peninsular of land somewhat like a barrier island defending the Mar Menor from the Mediterranean Sea running along for 18 kilometres. The ‘Strip’ was formed in the 17th century from thousands of years of sand being washed by the currents of the sea on an underwater volcanic range.

Historically La Manga has always been related to fishermen even now operating in the district in specific at Cabo de Palos an appealing fishing village situated at the top of ‘The Strip’ and is extremely recommended for its wonderful collection of fish restaurants - beyond doubt gastronomic joy!

Wonderful Beaches

The stunning beaches of the Mar Menor are no more than 100 metres from the door of our apartment building. The view is awe-inspiring! The evening sunset is astounding - specially from the restaurant on the beach.

The Mediterranean beaches are only 500 metres from our apartment. Categorically spoilt for choice if you enjoy sunbathing!!

There are also lots of other beaches up and down ‘The Strip’ one in particular about 300 metres away is popular for enjoying the benefits of a local ‘Mud Bath’ collected fresh from the Mar Menor and put on all over the body - left to dry and then washed off - it’s properties have many medicinal powers mainly for skin complaints and arthritis.

Times past

The district is steeped in history from La Manga, Murcia to Cartagena which has an old Port and countless Roman sites to see.

A tourist office is offered at the top of ‘The Strip’ where you can discover further information for places of interest and how to reach them.

The close city of Cartagena has a prosperous and monumental history. As well having an wealth of culture Cartagena is also naturally blessed for a coastline that is nothing short of magnificent.
